Pinocchio

This magical production is one of a series of participation musicals created especially for primary level and designed to help and encourage children with their literacy.

The show needs the help of the whole audience and is preceded by a rehearsal workshop in which some children are chosen to take part alongside the professionals, while the remaining audience are rehearsed into the chorus songs.

“Bringing a story to life is the best way to encourage our children to read”.

When Geppetto carves Pinocchio something magical begins to happen. As the wooden boy takes shape he starts to come to life, learns to walk and talk and takes on all the qualities of a mischievous little boy. Pinocchio may be disobedient but he’s also inquisitive and brave and has the most amazing adventures. What Pinocchio desires the most though is to become a real living boy – but will he?

The show requires the help of everyone watching. During the preceding fun half hour rehearsal workshop some children are chosen and rehearsed into their parts while the rest of the audience are taught the chorus songs. After a short pause the actors and children are costumed and the show, lasting 1 hour, runs seamlessly with everyone taking part as rehearsed.

Rehearsal/Workshop: 30 mins. Short pause. Performance: 1 hour.
