A PARTICIPATION MUSICAL FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN
The superb story of Tom’s adventures when the clock strikes 13, perfectly retold for 4-11 year old children, with interactive workshop and 12 children acting on stage with the actors.
This wonderful production is one of a series of participation musicals that have been created specifically for Primary Schools. The show itself is preceded by a rehearsal workshop for all the children during which 10 are chosen to take part in the show while the rest are rehearsed into three chorus songs. Philippa Pearce’s wonderful story of a boy’s encounter with the past has become a modern classic. It tells of the intersection of two people’s time; Tom’s time in the 1950s and Hatty’s time in 1895.
Their experiences challenge our concept of lineal time and gives us a fascinating and magical experience. The 10 children chosen to take part play Hatty’s brothers, the geese, the skaters and other small parts. The show features realistic costumes, an ingenious set and wonderful music by Robert Hyman.
Rehearsal workshop 30 minutes—interval—performance 1 hour. Age 4 years and up.
Feedback
“A super performance with high quality acting and singing. The children really enjoyed the morning and sat engrossed with the story. They loved the content and thought that the idea of having a 13 o’clock and being able to go into a secret garden was brilliant.”
—Kathryn Mansell, St Mary’s CE Primary School, Shropshire.“The songs involved everyone and the story was at an appropriate level. I really liked how you involved the children in the acting. Thank you for a fantastic performance.”
—Val Matthews (Head teacher), Ludlow Infant and Nursery School, Shropshire.“The children all thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The interactive elements with the pupils really added to the overall enjoyment level. The standard of performers was high and the singing both solo and duets were very good.”
